2019 release
‘Turning Point’ is the second release from Jason Bruer's powerhouse sextet Hammerhead. Their first CD ‘Mozaic’ – released in 2014 – whilst featuring some original material, was very much a nod to the pioneers of ‘Hard Bop’ such as Wayne Shorter, Art Blakey and Cedar Walton. ‘Turning Point’, whilst still congruent to a Hard Bop aesthetic, offers the listener a significant shift in style incorporating a wider range of influences. All the compositions are written and arranged by bandleader Jason Bruer and represent a turning point in the bands direction. The music ranges from hard edged ‘Urban Jazz, to Funk, Hard Bop and Chamber Jazz showcasing Bruer’s varied and eclectic influences.
Band:
Jason Bruer – tenor & soprano sax
Andrew Robertson – alto sax & flute
Cam’ McAllister & Simon Ferenci – trumpet
Greg Coffin – piano
Brendan Clarke – bass
Alex Hirlian – drums.
