‘What Sawkins has done with the tunes is explore the idiom’s moods - from sunlit buoyancy to the blues-tinged reflections on a lonely stake-out - from a contemporary perspective. On the tracks without the horns, he engages Hevia, bassist Adam Armstrong and pianist Alister Spence in conversations of sparkling animation to tranquil reflection.
