The British multi-instrumentalist Tubby Hayes(1935-73) was recorded for FONTANA live at Ronnie Scott's Club, London on May 17 & 18, 1962
The six tracks include two Hayes originals, one from Deuchar and three standards. Hayes is in powerful, exuberant form with fine playing from trumpeter Jimmy Deuchar and a superb rhythm section.
'Down In The Village' is an fine example of British modern jazz from the early 1960s and is one of Tubby Hayes' best live recordings.
