2024

"It's a natural gathering of forces that dynamically and authentically traverses a multitude of different idioms, cultures and colors by uniting at the lowest common denominator up to the greatest...It's an exceptional accomplishment to make music sound this easy.” All About Jazz

One word: mesmeric.

Tapestry captures in exquisite clarity one night of improvisation between 3 masters of their instruments - Iranian tar player Hamed Sadeghi, award-winning saxophonist-bass clarinettist Jeremy Rose and bassist Lloyd Swanton, well known to many as one-third of The Necks.

Inspired by the Persian Radif and Hamed's music, Vazesh produce a sonorous and joyous interplay between an ancient venerable musical tradition and contemporary improv. With a finely honed economy, the ease between the musicians is compelling throughout.

Bassist Lloyd Swanton elaborates on their affinity: “This wonderful trio started with a phone call from Jeremy, asking if I’d like to have a play with this Persian tar player he’d been jamming with. I was intrigued, and the three of us clicked from the very first notes. Since then, every time we’ve played, I’ve been astonished at the fertile, exotic areas we arrive at, from such simple beginnings. Improvising with Jeremy and Hamed in Vazesh accesses something very, very deep inside me, and this album illustrates that subconscious depth superbly.”

“This concert had something special about it,” recalls Jeremy, “a chemistry between us that was both relaxed yet energetic, interactive and yet static in other regards. It’s a treat to be able to share it with you.”

Tapestry follows their debut release in 2021, The Sacred Key, the record of a live performance at Sydney Opera House, which was recognized in nominations for two major Australian music awards.

Jeremy Rose (saxophone, bass clarinet), Hamed Sadeghi (tar), Lloyd Swanton (bass)
